BEACH CLEAN UP
On Saturday, 21 October, PHES and members of the community met down at the slipway to Pringle beach. We were quickly put into teams and given specific instructions on how to go about the litter pick up. As it is an official project, we needed to count every little piece of plastic, hardware, rope… So one member of the team had to be the scribe, another held the recycle bag and the rest of the team picked up litter. At first it was a tad laborious as we were used to just picking up the litter. But we started to see which things were more frequent than others, and identify the hot spots.
Sadly we didn’t do as great an area as we had hoped as there was just too much litter in a relatively small stretch of beach.
We did pick up loads of waste which a team of clever and a group of dedicated people(one of them being a mum-Milly Jones) are going to be sorting through the litter and devising Eco-Art projects with the learners at PHES and learners from the schools nearby. These will eventually be displayed at the festival next year.
Thank you to all of you who made the effort to make the day a successful on. We hope to see even more people at the next one!
